Hankuk Composite Expands Operations with New Facility in Avonmouth to Meet Growing UK Demand

Hankuk Composite UK, part of Hankuk Carbon – a leading manufacturer of advanced composite materials, is pleased to announce the relocation of its operations to a new warehouse in Avonmouth. This strategic move comes in response to increasing demand from the UK composite industry and will enable the company to better serve customers across the United Kingdom and Europe.

Strategically located near the M4 and M5 motorways, the Avonmouth facility is designed for efficient distribution. This new location allows Hankuk Composite to offer next-day delivery on a range of prepregs, including tooling and general-purpose prepregs in industry-standard carbon fabrics and weights, as well as specialist prepregs for automotive and aerospace interiors. With a minimum order quantity of just a single roll, customers can obtain high-quality materials quickly and with minimal hassle.

Hankuk Composite UK (HCUK) continues to enhance its product offerings with high-performance materials tailored for various sectors, including automotive, aerospace, energy, construction, sports, and leisure. The new facility further strengthens the company’s ability to deliver innovative, high-productivity press-mouldable prepregs, a field in which it has pioneered advancements.

Hankuk Carbon’s G101-1 resin system, optimised for automotive and aerospace applications, offers excellent surface quality and high transparency, making it ideal for aesthetic and structural components. This system, which is tested to BMW GS 94007 standard, exemplifies Hankuk Carbon’s commitment to providing cutting-edge materials that meet the highest industry standards.

With over 40 years of experience in producing composite materials, including carbon fibre textiles and prepregs, Hankuk Carbon has grown into an international provider of composite solutions. The company operates manufacturing plants in South Korea and Vietnam and has offices in China, US and the UK. It is renowned for its specialist material solutions for a wide range of composite applications, including Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) storage tanks for marine bulk carriers, Battery Electric Vehicles, and high-quality prepregs for aerospace, marine, and automotive markets.

Hankuk Carbon’s commitment to innovation is further demonstrated by the establishment of a new headquarters in Seoul featuring a composite woven exterior. This new HQ co-locates commercial and engineering teams and includes an applications development centre equipped with autoclaves, presses, and testing equipment. This facility enables rapid co-development of solutions with customers, enhancing the effectiveness of composite processing and use.

Sustainability is a key focus for Hankuk Carbon. The company has begun installing local solar power at most of its production locations, with solar panels already operational at four plants. Additionally, Hankuk is committed to reducing internal waste and energy consumption, using renewable energy, and employing electric vehicles in the UK to minimise environmental impact. The company also offers a range of bio-epoxy resins and is set to announce more sustainable product developments soon.

The strategic goals associated with the new Avonmouth facility include improving customer service and responsiveness by maintaining localised prepreg stock, thereby shortening lead times and reducing minimum order quantities. Hankuk will continue expanding its UK team and providing application development support to serve its customers better.

Hankuk Carbon is also proud of its customer success stories, such as the rapid adoption of its press-mouldable phenolic prepregs for volume aerospace interior components, which are also suitable for railway applications. The company’s new tooling prepreg, with a five-day outlife, low-temperature initial cure, and high-temperature post-cure capabilities, has been well-received in the market. These prepregs and Class A epoxy production prepregs will be available ex-stock.

“Our new facility in Avonmouth represents a significant step forward for us,” said Paul Gallen, Sales Director at Hankuk Composite UK ” This expansion solidifies our commitment to the UK market and enables us to provide innovative, cost-effective solutions with quicker turnaround times. We are proud to offer total technical support, from the supply of materials through to engineering and production of effective composite solutions—truly ‘Composites – All at Once.'”
